I am editing my book and came across this sentence from day 80 of this awful war:

"It is ok to move at your own pace when the world is on fire."

Whooosh - I love it, and this is still as relevant today.

I had the chance to move slower a few weeks ago when I volunteered to pick persimmons. I experienced some sort of zen when packing up the fruit. The first calm in I don't know how many months.

So remember to be kind to yourself. Slow down. Walk instead of run. Take a break. Reach out to a friend and maybe take a day off. You also deserve a few moments of zen.

P.S. I still hate persimmons.

Good thing I was already home, but if I wasn’t, there are bomb shelters scattered throughout our town for protection. Yes, photos two, three, and four are all safe rooms, and one is a synagogue (smart thinking, in my opinion).

Oh, yeah, we are safe. We have a bomb 💣 shelter.

The hostages. Always at the forefront of my thoughts and prayers.

The largest ballistic missile attack ever (from Iran last week). Direct hit on a school a few towns over.

Ongoing rockets, which means ongoing sirens. The stress is full body.

Drone attack killing four under twenty year olds in a cafeteria.

Direct rocket hit on a senior living facility.

Shooting attack in Jaffe with fatalities.

And this AM a terror attack right outside my town. Literally. Terrorists shooting at cars on the highway.

This is but a snapshot of life here. And it is hard.
Israeli civilians are the target of all these attacks, and my life is literally on the line. Where is the outrage?

There are three mafia's by my house. Yup, three. That's a lot, IMO. Can you believe it? And they are all within walking distance. It makes it really, really difficult during my morning walk/run with all the commotion.

Oh, wait, I forgot. Do you know what a mafia is in Israel? Let's see. If I write it phonetically - ma'afiya or מאפיה in Hebrew, does that help?

Bakery, my friends. It is a bakery! Three is still a lot in a one mile radius, am I right?

The world as I knew it disappeared, and I lost all naivete. Hope flew out the door, and survival kicked in. I am jumpier, angrier, and sadder. I no longer plan years ahead and focus only on the day ahead. I now have an uncanny ability to see people like I have never seen them before. And I deeply understand the value of friendships that last.

I also worry about the Jews in Canada and the United States. I hate the rising antisemitism and the demonization of Zionism. I fear it will get worse before it gets better.

I have only one hope that Hamas lets the hostages go. We need to demand their release. Now.

Now I am just showing off.

When you stumble into a local store, do you find anywhere near the colors and choices that I see? Dried fruit, tea fruit, spices, halva, baked goods, and more? This is one of my favorite parts of Israel. And the smells. Oh, wow. The smells are a hit of home, and nostalgia all rolled into one. Home because I live here and nostalgia because when I first landed in Israel so many years ago and hitched my future to not only this land but also the people, one in particular. I have spent most of my adult life studying, living, loving, and writing about Israel, and I have no plans to stop anytime soon.

Here is reason six why I love Israel.

Hey, news agencies. I heard from some people that you are not reporting about the rockets in Israel. Let me do your work for you. Hell, I wish I could also do the work of the International Committee of the Red Cross and check on the hostages, bring them medicines, make sure they are alive.

And did you also hear that Hamas declined a one-week ceasefire? (Don't believe me, check Times of Israel)? We want our hostages back.

I know that when my day is interrupted with rockets that is trying to KILL me, I think people should know who is doing it and what is going on.
